TICKETS: Wizard of Oz
The dancers dance, sing and act their way through the beloved story of Dorothy and Toto landing in the Land of Oz via cyclone, and venturing to the Emerald City to ask the Great Oz to return them to Kansas in a bright retelling of the story written and directed by Nancy Whyte artistic director and choreographer, with Russ Nelson, technical director.
"The story has always been dear to our respective hearts, and we each have separately harbored a desire to do it for a very long time," says Nancy Whyte. "Russ is such a talented stage and set designer, that it seems inevitable he should be designing this production, which is so dependent on vision, imagination and creativity; all qualities that Russ exemplifies."
The cast of 75 features Sierra Thompsen as Dorothy, with Alexi Maloy as Toto. Carol Gegenhuber performs the Scarecrow, Ali Gonzalez, the Tin Man, and Liane Parrish plays the Cowardly Lion. Glinda the Good is portrayed by Nina Deacon, and the Wicked Witch of the West by Annie Brinson.
The Nancy Whyte School of Ballet was first establlished in Bellingham in 1969. In 1975, the Mt. Baker Ballet was established, and has continuously performed as Bellingham's own ballet company, both locally and nationally since the time of its inception.
Tickets are $15 per person and are available after May 1st at Grigg's Stationers, Creative Dancewear, and Village Books, or through the mail. Mail order forms may be downloaded at TICKETS. Tickets may also be purchased at the door the night of the performance.
