Welcome to the Nancy Whyte School of Ballet which has been proudly bringing dance to Whatcom County since 1969. The Nancy Whyte School of Ballet is the official training school for the Mt. Baker Ballet which has been performing nationally since 1975. Many alumni of the school and company have entered world class dance companies or entered dance related fields. Please read this policy over carefully. These policies have been formulated over the years to help make the dance training experience a positive one.
Dress Code
All students should be dressed appropriately as stipulated in the dress code. Students not properly attired will be asked to sit out class.
Dancers should wear their hair controlled for class so that the instructor can see the line the neck and head have in relation to the body. Long hair should be tied back and in a bun or wrapped braid, short hair held back with a ribbon or band, so that it will not interfere with learning jumps or turns. No pony tails or hanging hair, please.
NO JEWELRY with the exception of small pierced earrings and rings. Watches are never worn for class.
Tights: All levels, early childhood through advanced ballet must have ballet pink tights with seams, and pink  ballet shoes.(Leather or canvas shoes.) Boys may have black or white shoes and tights.

Leotard colors:
Early childhood and pre-ballet:     light pink
               Level I-Ib:                                 white
               Level II-IIb:                               light blue
               Level III-IIIb:                             navy blue

WRAP SWEATERS IN PINK OR BLACK AND PINK LEG WARMERS ARE THE ONLY "EXTRAS" ALLOWED.  NO SHORTS, SKIRTS, SWEAT PANTS OR BAGGY TEE_SHIRTS, OR SWEATERS, PLEASE.
Students over age 10 are expected to have bathed, used deoderant and have fresh ballet clothes for every class. This is required.
Attendence
Students should attend classes regularly. Infrequent attendence holds back the progress of the student and the rest of the class. In order for the learning experience to be a positive one, it is important that students attend class regularly.
Should infrequent attendence be a factor in a student performing less than satisfactorily by the reecital date, the student may, at the discretion of the instructor and production director, be withdrawn from the recital.
A dancer with an injury or who is not well enough to participate should observe class, as much can be learned by watching.
No credit is given for classes missed. Fees are not refundable.
Tardiness
Ballet classes are constructed in a logical manner to warm up and develope the necessary musculature and skill to attain technique. To miss the first exercises puts a student in jeopardy as improper warm up can result in injury. Students and parents are asked to consider that if a student misses ten minutes per class, that in a month this is forty minutes of class work missed. If the instructor deems it appropriate, a student more than 5 minutes late may be asked to sit out for the day. This is in the interest of safety and the learning experience for the other class members. Late arrivals are disruptive.
Students are expected to arrive at the studio in time to dress and be ready to start at the time the class is scheduled to begin.
Students are expected to attend the entire class. Early dismissals are discouraged.
Class Observation
The quality of the learning experience for the student is the foremost priority. Observers are welcome, PROVIDED THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES ARE ABIDED BY:
a. Please do not enter and/or leave the studio once the class is in progress. This distracts the students.

f. Parents are asked to refrain from the temptation to coach from the sidelines.
Please do not attempt to               correct or discipline your child from the sidelines!
g. In the interest of the learning experience, an instructor may ask an observer to leave or clear the studio of all observers if it is felt their presence is a distraction.
h. Please, no gum, food or beverages in the studio.
i. Please do not sit where barres are being used. This is a distraction. Sit in areas where barres are not in use.
